The Reigning Christ Recovering the Earth by Watering
“He will drop like rain upon mown grass, / Like abundant showers dripping on the earth.” (Psalm 72:6)
“And He will have dominion from sea to sea / And from the River unto the ends of the earth.” (72:8)
In this post we’ll consider the delightful matter of how the reigning Christ will recover the earth by His water. We’ll also consider how we can apply this revelation to our practical Christian living today.
Seeing a Vision of How Christ Recovers the Earth by Watering
From Psalm 72, I enjoyed a fresh vision of how Christ will recover the earth. He will do it not mainly by judging, but by watering. I particularly enjoyed the banner for this message:
At His second coming,
Christ will take possession of the earth
And will establish God’s kingdom on earth,
Spreading the kingdom by Himself as the flowing river,
Recovering the earth by watering,
And satisfying the thirsty ones with living water.
This summary of Psalm 72 is consistent with the revelation of God’s economy throughout the Scriptures. That is, in Genesis 2:10 a river went forth from Eden to water the garden. In Revelation 22:1, a river proceeded out of the throne of God and of the Lamb to reach all twelve gates of the holy city,New Jerusalem. In between, we can see the repeated emergence of the river through the Psalms (Psa. 46:4), the prophets (Ezek. 47:1-7), and throughout the New Testament (John 4:14; 7:38).
The Application of the Vision by Keeping Ourselves in the Divine Stream
How does such a vision affect us today? If we see that God’s way to take possession of the earth is by watering, we would endeavor to be where this water is, that is, in the divine stream. Such a divine flow is not merely something for our personal enjoyment, but a matter of God’s move on the earth by watering to recover the earth for His dominion.
The flowing of the divine stream is one throughout the Bible. You can never see in the Bible where God had more than one flow. We must be in this divine stream, keep ourselves in this stream, and be deeply immersed in this stream. We must ask ourselves, Am I in this stream? And, if so, how deeply am I in this stream (Ezek. 47)?
How we deal with the application of the vision of Christ recovering the earth by watering and flowing will determine our spiritual future and may be the deciding factor of what status will be in the kingdom in the coming age.
May the Lord grant us all such a heart with His mercy that we may really dive into this one divine stream and remain in this stream until we meet the Lord.
“Lord Jesus, grant us a fresh vision to see how you gain the earth by watering. May we be those daily receiving your watering by drinking you as the fountain of living waters. May we also be those daily flowing you out to water others. Grant us to see the one divine stream from Genesis to Revelation and to keep ourselves continually in this divine stream to fulfill your eternal economy and to bring you back.”

This is so different from seeing Christ as the Judge coming to condemn and destroy the earth! Yes, He is coming to judge, but He is coming to mainly water us and to recover us to be for Him! Today we can be in the divine stream – which flows throughout the ages! O, Lord, we want to be in the stream all the way! Not just up to the ankles, but may the flow increase in us until we swim in it and are carried by it!
